Your ptranes sound like my great grand ptranes. They loved this country, obeyed the rules, and learned the English language. No one is asking immigrants to give up their heritage, but to fly their flag over ours, is just disrespectful. To demand rights from this country, when their very own country does not want them is amazing. For me it is not the color of their skin, it is the attitude. By the way, I love Cuban food. Thank your ptranes for becoming one of us, and thank you for defending your country.

Nice roifectlen -- and Congrats on your book contract!I didn't like Dr. Seuss at first either -- and, like Rowan, my three LOVED the silly words. Then we started talking about the messages behind the silly words and I changed my mind :)

I think I need some kind of Idiot's Guide to Poetry beucase the issue for me is I really don't understand what's going on. I need a guide to step me through what's so good about a piece beucase I can't see it usually. And I've never heard of Bruce Dawe before. Really, I know nothing about poetry, although I do understand that I should.

I can see we are going to have to work on your arvosien to poetry, AS. I don't read a lot of poetry, but there are a handful of poems without which my life would be diminished. One of these is a poem I always pull out to reread at this time of year (being footy finals time): Bruce Dawes' Life Cycle . You probably have heard or read it. It is very Melbourne/Victorian.I can't believe I can't find this on the net. Probably something to do with that old-fashioned idea called copyright. But seriously, for someone who obviously loves words, you are probably missing out on a lot of pleasure by not persevering a bit to find (a) poet(s) to your taste.
